After the publication of its first poster a few days ago, « The Husband »continues to build anticipation.
KBS2 has unveiled the first images and a video of the script reading for the romantic thriller starring Namgoong Min, offering a glimpse of the cast gathered for the first time around the project. Scheduled to debut in early July, the drama tells the story of a man who will do anything to find his wife after she is kidnapped, just as their marriage is about to end.
Namgoong Min promises a new transformation
Namgoong Min plays Kang Tae-joo, a man whose life is turned upside down when his wife suddenly disappears. In this first reading, the actor already gave a glimpse of the character's emotional intensity.
According to the production team, his body language, the way he looks and the way he speaks immediately conjure up the image of a hero torn between the fear of losing his wife and the determination to find her kidnapper.
The drama should show both a man on a dangerous hunt and a husband confronted with conflicting emotions as his marriage collapses.
Kim Dae-myung as an unexpected villain
One of the surprises of this script reading came from Kim Dae-myung. Known for his often warm-hearted roles, the actor will play Noh Man-hee, the man responsible for kidnapping Go Se-yoon.
The character runs a popular computer academy in his neighborhood and displays a benevolent personality to his students. But behind this façade lies a much more disturbing personality.
The production emphasizes that Kim Dae-myung has succeeded in making the contrast between the ordinary man everyone likes and the cold criminal he hides feel right from the start.
Lee Seol at the heart of the drama
Lee Seol plays Go Se-yoon, the woman whose disappearance triggers the whole plot. Her character is already going through a difficult period due to her divorce from Kang Tae-joo, when she is abducted.
During the reading, the actress brought Go Se-yoon's complex emotions to life, oscillating between resentment, lingering affection for her husband and growing fear of her situation.
A mysterious stranger and a determined detective
The drama also features Lee Sang-hee in the role of Kim Kyung-ae. A character still shrouded in mystery, she appears before Go Se-yoon in particularly troubling circumstances. According to the production, her presence is discreet, but sufficiently disturbing to immediately arouse viewers' curiosity.
Another name to remember: Park Byung-eun, who will take part in the drama in a special role. He will play Lee Soo-hyung, a former homicide detective who has become the head of a private investigation agency. His presence is expected to play an important role in the story's escalating tension.
One of the most eagerly awaited thrillers of the summer
With its blend of psychological thriller, criminal investigation and marital drama, “The Husband” is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Korean releases of July.
The series will also mark the return of weekend mini-series on KBS2, with the ambition of reviving this time slot thanks to a strong cast led by Namgoong Min.
The Husband will begin airing on July 4 at 9:20pm on KBS2 and Disney+.
