With less than a month to go before its release, « Notes From The Last Row »begins to unveil its universe.
Netflix has released the first poster and teaser for this psychological thriller starring Choi Min-sik and Choi Hyun-wook, a duo that already promises a confrontation as fascinating as it is disturbing.
An encounter that will change everything
The story follows Heo Mun-oh (played by Choi Min Sik), a once renowned writer turned professor of Korean literature after failing to publish a new book for over 20 years. Just when he seems to have lost his inspiration for good, his life changes when he discovers the exceptional talent of Lee Kang (Choi Hyun Wook), a discreet student who always sits in the last row of his lecture hall.
Heo Mun-oh soon becomes fascinated by the young man's writings. But what starts out as a simple mentor-student relationship gradually takes a much darker turn.
A disturbing obsession
The first teaser shows Heo Mun-oh gradually rediscovering his taste for writing after discovering Lee Kang's texts.
At first, he encourages his student: «You have talent. But admiration soon gave way to obsession. The more he reads Lee Kang's texts, the more he seeks to understand their origins and the events that inspired them.
The teaser ends with a particularly disturbing question: «The story you wrote for your assignment... was it real?» A sentence that suggests that the young man's stories could be directly linked to real events.
A psychological thriller between fiction and reality
The official poster reinforces this heavy atmosphere.
On the one hand, Heo Mun-oh appears deeply troubled, as if gradually consumed by something he can no longer control. On the other, Lee Kang's expression is cold and impassive.
Fragments of torn sentences also appear on the poster, evoking the mysterious private lessons in literature that seem to unite the two characters. Netflix is already presenting the series as a psychological thriller where the line between fiction and reality becomes increasingly blurred.
Choi Min-sik returns to Netflix
The project is also attracting attention thanks to the presence of Choi Min-sik, a Korean film legend best known for his role in Oldboy.
Opposite him, Choi Hyun-wook continues his ascent after several notable roles in popular dramas, and here takes on a much darker, more mysterious character.
The chemistry between the two actors promises to be one of the series' greatest assets.
