SBS has unveiled the very first teaser for " Excitatio ", its ambitious occult drama scheduled for 2027 with Lee Jun-hyuk in the lead role.
Presented at the recent SBS Drama Media Day, Excitatio is shaping up to be one of the network's darkest and most intriguing projects of the coming year.
A supernatural thriller set in the ruthless world of Korean examinations
The story takes place in South Korea's ultra-competitive school system, where the pressure of results pushes some students to cross dangerous boundaries.
Obsessed with improving their grades, a group of high school students come into contact with a mysterious stimulant that awakens strange supernatural powers in them. But as one after another of their classmates begins to die in disturbing circumstances, an evil presence seems to be at work.
Faced with this threat, an exorcist priest is ready to risk everything to save the students, including his own soul.
Lee Jun-hyuk becomes an exorcist priest
The teaser offers a first glimpse of Lee Jun-hyuk in the father's role Antonio, who is in charge of fighting the demonic forces that have taken over Seongnyeong High School.
The video opens with his voice declaring, «The exorcism ritual begins with the observation of the possessed person.» The images then show students seemingly losing control of themselves, blood-stained corridors and disturbing phenomena hinting at the presence of evil spirits.
The teaser concludes with a promise of direct confrontation as Father Antonio asserts, «I'm going to drive you out of this child's body.»
One of SBS's most ambitious projects for 2027
With its mix of horror, exorcism, academic thriller and critique of academic pressure, Excitatio already stands out as one of the most original dramas in the future SBS catalog.
Presented as a true occult drama, the project will also explore the psychological and social consequences of school competition through a particularly dark supernatural plot.
«Excitatio» expected on SBS in 2027 (far too early for a broadcast platform, but as SBS has a partnership with Netflix, if it continues, we're betting on Netflix).
