After numerous postponements that have kept fans waiting for months, Netflix has finally lifted the veil on its drama “Soul Mate”. The platform has released the official trailer for this ambitious Japanese BL, confirming at the same time its out May 14.
Directed and written by Shunki Hashizume, the series already stands out for its scope, both in its narrative and its settings. The story spans ten years and takes us between Berlin, Seoul and Tokyo, with an atmosphere carried by a striking soundtrack by STUTS & butaji.

The cast includes Hayato Isomura, Ok Taec-yeon, Ai Hashimoto, as well as Koshi Mizukami, Yutaro Furutachi, Lee Jae-yi, Chihiro Kato, Ken Yasuda, Kaho Minami and Tomokazu Miura.
An intense 10-year love story
The story follows Ryu Narutaki (Isomura Hayato), a former ice hockey hopeful consumed by guilt after destroying the life of his best friend. Unable to face his past, he leaves Japan to try and rebuild his life in Berlin.
That's when his destiny changes. After a dramatic incident in a church that leaves him between life and death, he is saved by Hwang Johan, a Korean boxer played by Ok Taec-yeon. This encounter marks the beginning of a bond as unexpected as it is powerful.
Both carry deep wounds. Yet their relationship develops rapidly, despite cultural differences and language barriers. Little by little, they realize that a unique bond unites them.

Over the years, their story oscillates between support, tension and questioning. Between Berlin, Seoul and Tokyo, they go through moments of pain, doubt and happiness, building a relationship that is constantly evolving.
With its melancholy yet intense tone, “Soul Mate” promises to be a landmark work in the BL genre, driven by ambitious direction and a highly-anticipated pairing of actors.
