The new drama series Typhoon Family has just unveiled a breathtaking teaser, plunging viewers into the heart of the upheavals caused by the 1997 Asian financial crisis, better known in Korea as the MFI crisis.

Carefree youth hit hard
At the heart of the story Lee Junho as Kang Tae-poong, a carefree young man from a wealthy family. Accustomed to Apgujeong's trendy parties and a life of unconstrained freedom, Tae-poong cares little for his future. The teaser shows him in vibrant scenes of youth: singing and dancing in clubs, or surrounded by his friends nicknamed the "Ap Street Boys", emblematic figures of Seoul's most fashionable district at the time.

But this carefree world suddenly collapses with the arrival of the MFI crisis. Tae-poong, who had never had to face up to economic realities before, finds himself at the head of a bankrupt trading company, with no money, no employees and, above all, no clear future. The financial storm becomes the catalyst for his metamorphosis.
A resilient heroine in the face of chaos
In parallel, Kim Min-ha plays Oh Mi-seon, a young accountant struggling to keep her family afloat. The eldest of her siblings, she carries the weight of domestic responsibilities on her shoulders while working long hours at Typhoon Company. Despite the sacrifices, Mi-seon nurtures the dream of emancipating herself and building a career in a male-dominated world.

The contrast between the 2 protagonists is striking: while Tae-poong learns to take the blows of an implacable reality, Mi-seon has already been fighting adversity for a long time. The teaser reveals some poignant moments: a family reunited in tears, a foreclosure notice stuck on the door of an abandoned house, and Tae-poong running in the pouring rain, caught up in the whirlwind of uncertain times.
Scheduled for release on October 11 at 9:20 p.m. and on Netflix the same dayTyphoon Family promises a blend of historical drama and deeply moving human stories. Between collapse and hope, the destiny of Kang Tae-poong and Oh Mi-seon reflects that of an entire generation shaken by one of modern Korea's most significant crises.
