Jin Ki-joo has been confirmed as the lead actress in the new drama “Sleeping Doctor”, a medical romantic comedy to be broadcast on KBS2.
The series will follow the daily life of a small psychiatric clinic in difficulty, where characters with atypical backgrounds meet. At the heart of the story are Hong Gyeong, a young psychiatrist trying to revive her career, and Nam Ji-oh, a versatile doctor with surprising skills.
With this project, the drama promises to mix humor, emotions and reflection around mental health.
A talented but fragile doctor
Jin Ki-joo plays Hong Gyeong, director of a private psychiatric clinic. Despite her recognized skills, she herself is marked by past traumas that affect her equilibrium. Seeking a fresh start, she opens her own clinic, but soon finds herself confronted with a situation as unexpected as it is embarrassing: she regularly falls asleep... in the middle of a consultation.
This unexpected trait gives the character both a comic and touching dimension, as she tries to keep her practice afloat.
Her meeting with Nam Ji-oh, a freelance doctor capable of adapting to any situation, could mark a turning point in her personal and professional life. Kim Sung-cheol is currently in talks for the role, while Kim Yoon-hye could play a nurse working alongside her.
The production team is confident about the drama's potential, stressing the interest of this contrast between a doctor unable to treat herself and a practitioner able to breathe new life into a struggling clinic. The aim is to offer a story that is both human and heartwarming.
