The highly anticipated Korean series “Yumi's Cells 3”continues to reveal itself. TVING recently shared a new teaser focusing on the character of Soon Rok, played by Kim Jae-won, revealing an unexpected facet of this character known for his calm and rationality.
Adapted from the popular webtoon of the same name, “Yumi's Cells” recounts the daily life of Yumi, an ordinary office worker. But the drama's originality lies in the point of view of her brain cells, which each control her thoughts, emotions and reactions.
A seemingly cold director
In this third season, Kim Jae-won plays Soon Rok, an editorial director working for Julie Publishing and responsible for Yumi. Despite his sweet face, he's known for his outspokenness and direct, unfiltered remarks.
To Yumi, Soon Rok seems to embody the very definition of composure. As if the word «cool» were literally written on his face. Yet behind this composed appearance lies a rather cute secret: Soon Rok is a true homebody who operates in «low-energy mode» when outdoors.
When Yumi attempts a friendly conversation by saying, «It's really nice out today, isn't it?», he replies simply and briefly, «Yes.»
A totally different Soon Rok at home
However, the teaser reveals a completely different personality once he returns home. As soon as he walks through the door, his brain cells fire up with enthusiasm and the village of cells lights up.
Like Yumi, Soon Rok appreciates small, solitary pleasures. He quietly enjoys fried ravioli, declaring «Perfect», before getting excited about a baseball game on TV.
But meeting Yumi gradually seems to bring about an unexpected change in him. Even when he's supposed to be operating in low-energy mode, his cells begin to shake.
His battery even seems to stay «fully charged» when he's out and about, as if Yumi's presence gives him new energy.
When she says, «I'll try to do it myself. I don't want to bother you,» Soon Rok simply replies, «It's no bother.»
A reaction that reveals, without him really being aware of it, that something is changing.
Season 3 of “Yumi's Cells” will air from April 13 at 6pm (Korean time) on TVING.
