The drama “We Are All Trying Here”begins to reveal itself with the first images from its script reading. Starring Koo Kyo-hwan, Go Youn-jung and a particularly rich cast, the project promises to be a realistic dive into the ambitions, failures and complex relationships of the film world.
The story follows Hwang Dong-man, a struggling film director who, surrounded by successful friends, feels he's the only one not getting ahead in life. Plagued by anxiety, jealousy and self-doubt, he embarks on a personal quest to find a measure of peace.
A main character losing his bearings
Koo Kyo-hwan embodies this tormented character with great accuracy. He brings to life a man caught between dreams and reality, whose emotional instability reinforces the story's immersion.
Opposite him, Go Youn-jung plays Byun Eun-ah, a producer renowned for her sharp criticism, to the point of being nicknamed «The Axe». Behind this tough facade, she reveals deeper wounds, adding an extra dimension to her character.
Oh Jung-se plays Park Kyung-se, a director who has been associated with Hwang Dong-man for 2 decades. He finely expresses the contradictions of a man torn between ambition and feelings of inferiority.
A world of rivalry and emotion
The drama also relies on a strong cast of characters. Kang Mal-geum impresses as the charismatic head of a production company, while Park Hae-joon plays the protagonist's brother, a discreet man marked by regret.
Choi Won-young brings tension as a company director at odds with Byun Eun-ah, while Bae Jong-ok and Han Sun-hwa play two actresses whose relationship oscillates between affection and rivalry.
Last but not least, the story is enriched by a number of characters played by Jeon Bae Soo, Shim Hee Seop, Bae Myung Jin, Jo Min Guk and Park Ye Ni, all from the same film industry circle. Through them, the series explores realistic relationships based on competition, jealousy and solidarity.
With its universal themes and human approach, “We Are All Trying Here” promises a sincere look at the difficulties of finding one's place, even when everything seems to be working against you.
The drama is due on April 18 at 10.40pm (Korean time) on JTBC and Netflix.
