Netflix has unveiled a initial overview for his upcoming original drama « The WONDERfools« presented at the event Next on Netflix 2026 Korea. The series plunges us into 1999, a time marked by the fear of the end of the world, when a group of ordinary inhabitants suddenly find themselves endowed with superpowers... without ever having asked for them.
A mix of comedy, action and adventure, The WONDERfools follows these bumbling, flawed characters as they face threats to the peace of Haeseong City. Directed by Yoo In-sik, which finds Park Eun-bin after their highly acclaimed collaboration on Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
A new face for Park Eun-bin and Cha Eun-woo
Park Eun-bin takes on the role of Eun Chae-ni, a young woman unwillingly drawn into an incident that turns her life upside down and gives her extraordinary abilities. The actress shared her enthusiasm about this new project: «I was able to work with director Yoo In-sik again very quickly after Extraordinary Attorney Woo. As we already knew each other well, this new collaboration allowed me to discover other facets of him, and that was very pleasant on the set. I also had excellent chemistry with the other actors. Physically, it was demanding because of the superpower scenes, but mentally, I had a lot of fun and approached the role with the desire to show a more evolved version of myself.»
At his side, Cha Eun-woo plays Lee Woon-jung, a civil servant specially appointed to investigate a series of mysterious disappearances. Suspicious and observant, his character brings a more serious dimension to this offbeat tale. Park Eun-bin, who was working with him for the first time, underlined his total involvement: «I couldn't imagine a better actor than him for the role of Lee Woon-jung. He gave his all to this project before leaving to do his military service.»
The cast is completed by Choi Dae-hoon, Im Seong-jae, Kim Hae-sook and Son Hyun-joo, who enrich the series' universe with colorful characters. Between humor, action and nostalgia for the late 90s, The WONDERfools promises to be an original proposition in the K-drama landscape.
