“The Scarecrow” unveils its script reading with an intense and promising cast

ENA's new drama, “The Scarecrow”, reveals a little more with the first images from its script reading. With a strong cast led by Park Hae-soo and Lee Hee-joon, the series promises to be an intense thriller combining criminal investigation and human tensions over several decades.

The story follows a detective in pursuit of a serial killer, forced to collaborate with a man he hates. Between 1988 and 2019, the two protagonists will be linked by a quest for truth that spans more than 30 years, in an atmosphere heavy with mistrust and resentment.

A tense collaboration

Park Hae-soo stars as Kang Tae-joo, an elite detective renowned for his keen powers of observation and intuition. Returning to his hometown after a demotion, he embarks on a relentless hunt for the real culprit behind Gangseong's serial murders.

But his investigation takes an unexpected turn when he has to team up with Cha Si-young, a prosecutor played by Lee Hee-joon. An imposed partnership that quickly becomes a dilemma, as the relationship between the two men is marked by deep-seated animosity.

Cha Si-young, an ambitious and strategic prosecutor, sees this high-profile case as an opportunity to further his political career. Behind his cool, controlled exterior, however, he hides a number of flaws, between insecurity and inner pressure.

A rich cast serving a dark tale

Around this central duo, several characters enrich the plot. Kwak Sun-young plays Seo Ji-won, a journalist determined to reveal the truth, even if it means keeping a close eye on the actions of the police.

Song Geon-hee plays Lee Ki-beom, a young man returning to his hometown to help his family, whose life is turned upside down by the murders. Alongside him, Seo Ji-hye plays Kang Sun-young, the detective's sister and caring teacher, whose daily life is brutally turned upside down.

Jung Moon-sung plays Lee Ki-hwan, a local bookseller and discreet yet imposing figure, while Baek Hyun-jin plays a police team leader concerned with maintaining balance and public confidence.

Finally, Yoo Seung-mok lends his features to Cha Mu-jin, the prosecutor's father, a former general and influential politician whose cold personality has left a deep impression on his son.

With a plot spanning several decades and characters whose paths are intertwined, “The Scarecrow” promises a captivating thriller, where the truth is constructed as much in the investigations as in the human relationships.

The drama is due on April 20 at 10pm (Korean time) on ENA (awaiting OTT).
