Disney+ is about to make its mark with The Murky Stream (Takryu)its very first original Korean historical series, due for release in September. Even before its broadcast, the drama has already been selected for the "On Screen" section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (September 17-26), offering audiences an exclusive preview.

The Murky Stream story
The plot takes place in the chaotic Joseon era, around the Gyeong River, once pure but now troubled, a symbol of a world plagued by corruption. We follow the destinies of characters with different dreams, all determined to overthrow the established order and live by their own values.

The cast includes Ro Woon (Extraordinary You, Destined With You) as Jang Si-yul, a man who dreams of a world where everyone can live in dignity, and Shin Ye-eun (The Glory, Flower Scholars' Love Story) as Choi Eun, an ambitious merchant aiming for the top of Joseon's largest commercial guild. Park Seo-ham (Semantic Error) makes his sageuk debut as Jung Cheon, an official determined to root out police corruption, while Park Ji-hwan (The Outlaws) plays Mu Deok, a gang leader imposing order on Mapo Ferry.

At the helm are director Chu Chang-min (Masquerade, 10 million box-office receipts) and screenwriter Cheon Seong-il (The Slave Hunters), who returns to the historical genre after 14 years.
With its mix of action, drama and intense human stories, The Murky Stream is shaping up to be one of the Kdrama events of the fall season. See you in September on Disney+ (if the platform broadcasts it in France).
