The K-drama fantasy-romance The First Night with the Duke (First Night with the Duke in France) continues to captivate viewers with its dramatic twists and breathtaking scenes. A discreet wedding... before the chaos
Remember: Cha Sun-chaek, an ordinary student transported into the world of a romantic novel, had found herself unwillingly linked to Yi Beon (Taecyeon, from 2PM), the possessive hero of the story. After many ups and downs, the couple finally got married in an intimate setting, just before Yi Beon left for the front on the king's orders to quell a border rebellion. This tender, if discreet, moment seemed to seal their love.
But in the shadows, Yi Gyu (Lee Tae-sun), leader of a conspiratorial group called the Black Deathis pursuing his own dark agenda. His goal: to topple Yi Beon, usurp the throne of King Seol-jong (Joo Suk Tae) and eliminate anyone who gets in his way.
Chilling scene: Cha Sun-chaek's life at stake
New images released by the production team take the tension up a notch. They show Cha Sun-chaek's familyonce influential, bound and dressed in white shroudsa fateful symbol of imminent execution. In the center, Sun Chaek closes her eyes, terrifiedas a blade is placed against his throat. Meanwhile, Yi Gyu observes the scene with a cold, implacable smile.
How did this respectable family come to this? What's their fault? And most importantly, Will Sun Chaek survive this deadly threat?
Arrested like a criminal
But that's not all: in another shocking scene.., Cha Sun-chaek arrested by palace guardsjust as she was about to flee with Jung Soo-gyeom (Seo Bum-june), Yi Beon's loyal friend. Clearly taken by surprise, Sun Chaek is dragged away as Soo Gyeom desperately tries to reach her.
Soo Gyeom himself is distraught, especially as he has recently discovered a terrible truth: his own father was linked to the Black Deatha crisis of loyalty and conscience for the young man.
