Netflix is continuing its assault on historical and fantasy K-dramas with «The East Palace», an ambitious series now confirmed for release. 2026. Carried by a trio of highly-anticipated actors, the drama promises to blend supernatural intrigue, political tension and a dark atmosphere in the heart of a haunted palace.
A cursed palace at the center of a supernatural mystery
The story of The East Palace plunges us into the closed, eerie precincts of the royal palace, where strange phenomena and supernatural entities sow fear. To lift the veil on this curse, the king calls on Gu-cheon, a man capable of traveling between the world of the living and that of spirits.
Behind the scenes, he joins forces with Saeng-gang, a discreet court lady who hides a dark secret. Together, they venture into the most forbidden corners of the palace to unravel its mysteries and confront the ghosts that lurk there. A fragile alliance, born of danger, where every revelation could upset the balance of power.
Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo and Cho Seung-woo reunited
To embody this dark, tension-filled universe, Netflix has assembled a first-rate cast. Nam Joo-hyuk stars as Gu-cheon, a character tormented by his ability to cross the boundary between two worlds. After Twenty-Five Twenty-One or Start-Up, the actor returns to a darker, more fantastical register.
At his side, Roh Yoon-seo plays Saeng-gang, a seemingly ordinary court lady whose past and intentions remain shrouded in mystery. Already noticed in Crash Course in Romance and Our Blues, she confirms her ascendancy with this central role.
Finally, Cho Seung-woo lends his features to the king, a figure of authority confronted with an invisible threat eating away at his kingdom from within. Accustomed to complex roles (Stranger, Life), it brings an added gravity to the plot.
Produced by Choi Jung-gyu (The Devil Judge) and written by Seo Jae-won and Kwon So-ra, The East Palace was shot throughout 2025, with filming completed in the summer. No precise date has yet been announced, but Netflix has confirmed a worldwide release in 2026 on Netflix.
With its gothic ambience, ghosts and political intrigue, The East Palace is already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing historical K-dramas to come. A title to keep an eye on for fans of fantasy and dark tales.
