Great news for fans of Study Group : TVING has officially confirmed the production of a season 2 of the successful K-drama adapted from the eponymous webtoon. The announcement was made on August 13, in partnership with the production company YLAB. And the icing on the cake: Hwang Min-hyun will reprise his starring role in this eagerly-awaited sequel.
Broadcast last January, the first season was a huge success. massive successboth in Korea and internationally. It dominated TVING's new subscriber rankings for five consecutive weeks, and won over viewers in 143 countries. On the strength of this performance, YLAB aims to transform Study Group into a veritable successful franchise (or "super IP"), with new projects already in the pipeline.
These projects include crowdfunding for a windbreaker inspired by the series reached 450 % of its target in just 3 days. What's more, the series is in the running for the "Best OTT Original at the Global OTT Awards 2025, in recognition of its impact on the international scene.
As a reminder, Study Group is a high-school action comedy focused on Yoon Ga-mina student with little academic talent but excellent fighting skills. When he joins the worst high school in the country, he decides to form a study group to pass the most competitive exams... while facing the physical and emotional challenges of everyday life.
Behind the camera is director Lee Jang-hoon (Miracle, Be with You) and screenwriter Oh Bo-hyun (Behind Your Touch, Island, Aftermath). The cast of the first season also included Han Ji-eun, Cha Woo-min, Lee Jong-hyun, Shin Su-hyun and Yoon Sang-jungbut alone Hwang Min-hyun has been confirmed for the time being.
Highlight: Study Group was the Hwang Min-hyun's last project before his military service. His demobilization is scheduled for December 20, 2025season 2 will mark his return to the screen.
