While « Spring Fever »is set to warm up the winter on tvN, Cha Seo-won opened up about this new project, which marks a milestone in his career. For the first time, the actor is venturing into the realm of romantic comedy, embodying a character who is elegant, sharp, and surprisingly warm.

A first step into romantic comedy, almost as if it were obvious

In Spring Fever, Cha Seo-won interprets Choi Yi-joon, an elite lawyer with an impeccable image. Former best friend of Seon Jae-gyu (Ahn Bo-hyun), he has now become his rival. Beneath his perfect exterior, however, Yi-joon hides flaws, and Jae-gyu's return to his life brings back a past he thought was buried. His indirect encounter with Yoon Bom (Lee Joo-bin) then draws him into the middle of a delicate love triangle.

The actor explains what prompted him to accept the role: «Since I started out, I had never tried romantic comedy, let alone comedy. I really wanted to give it a go. When I first received the script, I decided to accept the project as if it were fate.»

A character who appears cold, but is deeply human

Cha Seo-won describes Yi-joon as a much more nuanced man than he appears: «Yi-joon has a cold image as an elite lawyer, but he also has an awkward side and an unexpected warmth. I wanted to create a Choi Yi-joon that doesn't exist anywhere else, and that process was very enjoyable.»

Aware of the balance required in a romantic comedy, the actor emphasizes his approach to acting: «I pushed forward when necessary, but when Jae-gyu, Bom, or other characters needed to take center stage, I was careful to take a step back.»

He also adds that he recognizes certain traits in his character: «We are similar in the sense that I always try to remain polite and keep smiling.»

To summarize Yi-joon, Cha Seo-won chooses three keywords: mediator, spicy comedy and romance. « Yi-joon acts as a link, not only between Jae-gyu and Bom, but also between Se-jin and Han-gyeol. Although he may seem sharp-tongued, he has many comical moments and remains a romantic who values loyalty and human relationships more than money. "

In conclusion, the actor shares his hopes for the series: «It's a heartwarming drama, perfect for watching when the cold sets in, both in body and heart. We want to offer episodes that are both entertaining and touching, so I hope you'll give us lots of interest and love.»
