The second half of 2025 promises to be packed with kdramas! Today, we learn more about the arrival of an intriguing new project: " Liar, Lawyer" also known under the working title "Idol Eye. Confirmed on August 6, this original series broadcast on ENA and KT Genie TV on screen Choi Sooyoung (Girls' Generation) and Kim Jae-young in an unexpected pairing of legal mystery, romance and the world of K-pop.
A lawyer who's a fan... of her own client accused of murder
In "Liar, Lawyer", Sooyoung plays Maeng Se-naThe dreaded public defender, nicknamed "The Criminal Defender" for her propensity to take on cases that everyone else avoids. But behind her ironclad reputation lies a secret passion: for 10 years, she's been a fervent fan of the boy band Gold Boys... and above all Do Ra-ikthe lead singer.
It comes as a complete shock when his idol, played by Kim Jae-young, is accused of killing his best friend and group leader. Maeng Se-na takes up his defense, hiding his admiration to better track down the truth in a case with murky ramifications. The line between admiration, doubt and loyalty gradually becomes blurred.
Between spotlight and shadow
Do Ra-ikKim Jae-young's character is not simply an idol shining in the spotlight. Behind his dazzling smile, he hides a profound weariness, suffocated by public expectations and a life he can no longer control. The murder charge acts as a breaking point: he abandons his controlled image to live without a mask, ready to face the world differently.
The Sooyoung / Kim Jae-young duo promises a strong dynamic, fueled by moral dilemmas, buried secrets and constant emotional tension.
The series will be directed by Lee Kwang-youngknown for his delicate style in Call It Love or The Secret Life of My Secretarywritten by screenwriter Kim Da-rinacclaimed for its innovative scripts. Production is handled by A Storyto whom we owe successes such as Big Mouth or Extraordinary Attorney Wooa guarantee of quality for discerning viewers.
First words from the cast
Sooyoung confided that she was captivated from the very first pages of the script: " I think I really understand how the fans feel, and maybe that's why I couldn't let go of the script. It's the first time I've played both a lawyer and a secret fan, and I loved the contrasts in this character."
For his part, Kim Jae-young was enthusiastic: "It's a project that blends several genres, with a real dramatic background. I felt a little pressure at first, but I'm very happy to be playing a character as rich as Do Ra-ik."
What we're looking forward to
Between the mystery surrounding the murder case, the look at fan culture, the duality between appearances and inner truths, and the chemistry between the two protagonists, "Liar, Lawyer has all the makings of an end-of-year must-have.
