SBS already has one of its most eagerly awaited dramas of the spring. « Phantom Lawyer " (Shin I-rang Law Office) revealed himself through images of his first script reading, confirming the explosive chemistry between Yoo Yeon-seok and Esom.
An opposing duo at the heart of a court like no other
Phantom Lawyer is a courtroom comedy tinged with fantasy, with a concept as absurd as it is moving. Yoo Yeon-seok plays Shin I-rang, a kind-hearted lawyer unable to ignore the distress of others, even the dead. His life is turned upside down the day he begins to see ghosts and finds himself, against his better judgment, defending their causes to help them find peace.
Opposite him, Esom plays Han Na-hyun, the star lawyer of the Taebaek law firm. Cold, methodical and obsessed with winning, she boasts an impressive success rate of 100 %. Where Shin I-rang acts out of compassion, Han Na-hyun swears by results. Theirs promises to be an explosive partnership of ideological clashes and unexpected complementarity.
As soon as the script was read, Esom made her mark with a precise, controlled performance, imposing an icy presence in the face of Yoo Yeon-seok's more spontaneous energy. Their tense, rhythmic exchange foreshadows a central relationship as conflicted as it is captivating.
Yoo Yeon-seok in full comic metamorphosis
This project marks an important stage in the career of Yoo Yeon-seok, who tries his hand at for the first time in a fully-fledged comic role since his debut. During the reading, the actor alternated registers and expressions with remarkable ease, changing his voice, attitude and gaze with each “possession”. A performance that provoked many laughs on the set.
The actor humorously confided his determination: «I'm going to immerse myself completely in this role too.» A promise that already seems to have been kept, as his performance has set the tone for a drama as energetic as it is endearing.
Around the main duo, the cast reinforces this collective alchemy. Kim Kyung-nam plays Yang Do-kyung, ambitious head of the Taebaek firm, ready to take on Shin I-rang and Han Na-hyun head-on.
Jeon Seok-ho, Kim Mi-kyung, Son Yeo-eun, Lee Arin and Jung Seung-gil bring warmth and humanity to this singular universe, while Heo Sung-tae will be making a much-anticipated special appearance.
The production said: «From the very first reading, the actors were totally committed and showed impressive chemistry. Between comedy, humanity and judicial tension, we are preparing a series that is at once funny, cathartic and deeply warm.»
The series will be broadcast from March 13 at 9:50pm (KST) on SBS (waiting for an OTT, even if rumors already point to Netflix)
