While “Perfect Crown”Byeon Woo-seok talks about his new role and why he decided to join this highly-anticipated project.
After the success of “Lovely Runner”, the actor returns with a radically different character, in a world where modern Korea operates under a constitutional monarchy.

A role that immediately convinced him
Byeon Woo-seok plays Grand Prince Ian, a character as complex as he is contrasting. As soon as he read the script, the actor was captivated by the story and its evolution. «When I read the script, I could imagine myself playing this character, and it touched me emotionally,» he explains. «I immediately wanted to take part in this project.»
The drama's setting, blending modernity and royalty, also played an important role in her decision.
A prince between solitude and duty
To describe his character, Byeon Woo-seok puts forward 3 words: «loneliness, determination and love for the people».

Behind his perfect image of a respected prince, Ian is in reality profoundly lonely. Unable to confide in the royal family, he must maintain a flawless image in all circumstances.
«In public, he shows elegance and dignity, but he can't lean on anyone,» confides the actor. «Despite this, he is loved by the people.»
To embody this duality, Byeon Woo-seok worked on the emotional nuances of his character, particularly in his relationships with others: «He can be warm with some and cold with others. I tried to express these subtle variations.»

Regarding the romance, he adds, «I concentrated on the prince's story. From the script alone, his relationship can already be deeply felt.»
Finally, the actor concludes by emphasizing the drama's overall interest: «What's interesting is to see each character's choices and their consequences in this particular universe. Relationships are constantly evolving, and visual elements like sets and costumes will also be something to keep an eye on.»
“Perfect Crown” will be broadcast from April 10 at 9:40pm (Korean time) on MBC and Disney+ (but not all countries, and not in France).
