As the broadcast of « Shining« Park Jin-young shared his impressions of this new drama centered on a love that transcends time. The series tells the story of two young people who, after sharing a world of their own, gradually become a source of trust and light for each other.

In the drama, Park Jin-young plays Yeon Tae-seo, a subway driver with a reserved temperament. Behind his cold exterior lies a great deal of sensitivity. The role follows his evolution from 19 to adulthood, exploring his loves and the wounds he carries in silence.
A tale of youth rooted in reality
The actor explains that he was seduced by the authenticity of the script: «I wanted to take part because it's not just a beautiful story about growing up, but one that deals with real difficulties that everyone can relate to.»
Regarding his character, he adds: «He struck me as a character that the script subtly presents as someone you can trust unconditionally, “the kind of person you wish existed.” I was drawn to that warmth and wanted to try to interpret it.»

He also talks about what struck him when he first read the book: «We all know it would be better not to worry about other people's opinions, but it's hard to ignore them. Yet Yeon Tae-seo lives her own way, rather than allowing herself to be defined by the gaze of others. That's what touched me most about him.»
A character who grows without denying himself
The drama covers several stages in Tae-seo's life. On this subject, Park Jin-young confides, «The more I read the script, the more I saw that Yeon Tae-seo retained many of the same traits as she grew up.»
He explains his approach to the role: «So I didn't try to accentuate any marked age differences. The only nuance, so to speak, is in the way Tae-seo deals with his difficulties. I wanted to show that, as an adult, he has acquired a little more experience than when he was younger.»

Finally, he emphasizes what he believes makes the series touching: «I think the most ordinary, everyday stories are the most beautiful. Yeon Tae-seo and Mo Eun-ah's story reflects emotions we all feel at least once in our lives. If you focus on that, the impact will be even stronger.»
Shining will be broadcast from March 6 and available on Netflix.
