Two powers linked to the spirit world
The East Palace follows Gu Cheon, a man capable of crossing into the world of ghosts and eliminating them with his sword. Called to court to investigate a series of unexplained royal incidents, he finds himself associated with Saeng Gang, a court lady endowed with a gift as rare as it is feared: she can hear the voices of the dead. A power she has always lived with as a curse, until it becomes the key to unlocking the palace's darkness.

Together, they are secretly summoned by the king to discover the origin of the curse hanging over the East Palace. Each spectral apparition, each whisper from the beyond, brings them a little closer to a truth that some would prefer to keep buried.

A king with ambiguous intentions
At the center of this intrigue is a complex ruler, embodied by Cho Seung-woo, whose true motives remain unclear. Behind the official order lies a more personal desire: to understand what's eating away at the palace from within, even if it means awakening dangerous forces. The face-off between royal power, spirits and those capable of hearing them promises constant tension, between duty, fear and destiny.

With The East Palace, Netflix continues its exploration of historical dramas with a strong supernatural dimension, blending investigation, folklore and tragedy.
