A romantic comedy of possession and power

“My Royal Nemesis” tells the story of Shin Seori, an unknown actress whose life is turned upside down when she is possessed by the soul of a fearsome Joseon-era villain.

Transformed overnight, she develops a sharper, more unpredictable personality. Along the way, she meets Cha Segye, a conglomerate heir renowned for his coldness and ruthless temperament, often described as a true “capitalist monster”.

The meeting of these 2 characters promises a relationship as intense as it is unpredictable, oscillating between confrontation, humor and romantic tension.

The right chemistry

As soon as the script was read, Lim Ji-yeon made her mark with her first line: “But what is my crime?”, immediately setting the tone for her character. She plays both Shin Seori and Kang Dan-sim, an emblematic figure of historical villainy, blending mischief, survival and charisma.

Opposite her, Heo Nam-joon stands out in the role of Cha Segye, heir to a powerful group, whose self-confidence wavers as soon as he comes face to face with the heroine. Their already fluid dynamic alternates between comic moments, tension and dramatic intensity.

The rest of the cast, including Jang Seung-jo, Kim Min-seok, Lee Se-hee and Chae Seo-an, reinforce this balance with characters whose relationships are complex and often at odds with one another.

In fact, the production team noted, “It was a script reading with such perfect harmony that it's hard to believe this was their first meeting.”

With such a strong cast and solid first impression, “My Royal Nemesis” is already shaping up to be one of the dramas to keep a close eye on when it comes out in May on SBS and Netflix.
