Moon Ga-young in talks to join Choi Woo-shik in his next kdrama

We told you about this future kdrama a few days ago, since Choi Woo-shik was considered for the lead role. Today, according to several Korean media, the actress from True Beauty Moon Ga-young is also said to be in talks to play one of the drama's leading roles. Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid (working title).

Inspired by the famous tale The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, this adaptation will offer a revisited and dramatic version of the story. It takes place in 1926 in Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul), at the height of the Japanese occupation.

Mun Ka-young has been approached to play Heo Su-aa young maid born into a pro-Japanese family in Gunsan. In love with the sea and convinced she's a fish, she leads a modest life without ever having known love. But a tragic event causes her to lose her voice and plunges her into a desire for revenge.

On his side, Choi Woo-shik is in talks to play the role of Kang Ui-hyeona man determined to fight for his country's independence. Owner of a photo studio, he secretly works as a spy, specializing in code-breaking and clandestine photography.

Announcements

The drama will be directed by Heo Jin-hoalready acclaimed for such landmark productions as My Mister. On the production side, the project promises to be large-scale, with a substantial budget and an experienced film crew.

If the casting is confirmed, Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid could become one of the most eagerly awaited historical dramas of 2026.
