The thriller “Mad Concrete Dreams”is gearing up to turn up the heat. With just a few days to go before it airs, the drama has unveiled a poster featuring the crossed eyes of its main characters, hinting at contradictory desires and tensions ready to explode.
The story follows Ki Soo-jong (Ha Jung-woo), a homeowner who has taken out loans to the extreme to hold on to his building in the hope of a future redevelopment project. Burdened by debt, he agrees to take part in a fake kidnapping. But what was supposed to be a desperate solution soon gets out of hand and becomes dangerously real.
Around him gravitate his determined but secretive wife Kim Sun (Im Soo-jung), his ambitious friend Min Hwal-seong (Kim Jun-han), and Jeon Yi-kyung (Krystal). All seem to be pursuing different goals, making this building the heart of a silent confrontation.

One building, clashing ambitions
At the center of this storm is Yo Na, played by Shim Eun-kyung. An influential executive at Real Capital, she exerts constant pressure on Ki Soo-jong. Cold, methodical and elusive, she's a threat to everyone.
«I've finally fulfilled a wish I've had for a long time: to play a villain,» says the actress. She describes Yo Na as «a mysterious figure whose true intentions are impossible to read and whose actions are totally unpredictable».

The plot hinges on the collision of personal ambitions, with everyone willing to go the extra mile to defend their interests.
Shim Eun-kyung, a radical comeback
After 6 years away from Korean dramas, Shim Eun-kyung returns with a role as an assertive antagonist. «Playing a villain allowed me to try out acting styles I'd never seen before,» she explains. She reveals that she spent several months training for the action scenes, a new register for her.

She wants audiences to perceive Yo Na as «someone who is chilling but pure, and in a way even sincere». A character with a marked duality, whose visual style (inspired in particular by “A Clockwork Orange”) reinforces the unsettling atmosphere.
“Mad Concrete Dreams” will be broadcast from March 14 on Viki.
