The new drama « Mad Concrete Dreams »promises to be one of the darkest and most realistic thrillers of the season. The first images unveiled by the production team feature Ha Jung-woo, He's unrecognizable as a debt-ridden homeowner ready to cross dangerous lines.
At the heart of the story is an ordinary man who has become a homeowner through great sacrifice. Behind the symbol of success that owning a building represents, lies a financial and moral spiral that will slowly lead him to crime.
An owner on the verge of financial asphyxiation
Ha Jung-woo plays Ki Soo-jong, the head of a family who puts everything on the line to buy a building on credit. His dream: to take advantage of a future urban redevelopment project to change his life. But reality is far more brutal. Debts pile up, interest becomes crushing, and the threat of losing the building looms large.
The first images of the drama show a daily life far removed from the fantasies associated with real estate. Ki Soo-jong doesn't run a luxury high-rise, but an old building that he carefully maintains, as if it were his last lifeline. To repay his loans, he takes on a series of odd jobs, including delivery work, living from day to day, with no certainty about the future.
In spite of everything, his attachment to this building reveals a stubborn glimmer of hope: that of one day becoming a truly successful, recognized and respected owner.
When one decision turns an entire life upside down
Pushed to his limits, Ki Soo-jong agrees to take part in a staged kidnapping, which is supposed to enable him to regain control of his financial situation. But what was supposed to be a fake crime quickly spirals out of control, turning his life into a nightmare. Trapped in an uncontrollable spiral, he finds himself facing dangers far greater than mere bankruptcy.
The production portrays Ki Soo-jong as an ordinary man faced with extraordinary choices. On this subject, the drama team said, «No other actor than Ha Jung-woo could be considered for the role of Ki Soo-jong. His unique performance will keep viewers on the edge of their seats every episode.»
With Mad Concrete Dreams, Ha Jung-woo promises a raw, intense portrait of a man crushed by the weight of his decisions, in a thriller where the line between victim and perpetrator becomes increasingly blurred.
The drama Mad Concrete Dreams will be broadcast from March 14 on tvN, at 9:10pm (KST), waiting for an OTT.
