After making its mark with his chilling portrayal of Park Yeon-jin in The Glory, Lim Ji-yeon could well reinvent herself once again in a colorful role. The actress is currently in talks to play the lead character in Brave New World (working title), a forthcoming romantic comedy fantasy produced by SBS, scheduled for 2026.
A legendary villain propelled into the 21st century
This new project, directed by Han Tae-seop (Stove League, Cheer Up), promises a bold yet humorous plot. The drama recounts the explosive relationship between Shin Seo-ri, a woman possessed by the spirit of a famous Joseon dynasty "villain", and Cha Se-gye, a modern chaebol with an equally ruthless temperament.
Lim Ji-yeon will play the role of Shin Seo-ri, an unknown actress whose life is turned upside down when she is possessed by a legendary former concubine, once known as the "femme fatale" and condemned to death. Propelled into the 21st century, this historical figure will have to adapt to modernity while sowing chaos all around her. A double and complex role, offering the actress the opportunity to display her full range of emotions, between historical drama and contemporary satire.
A career on the rise
This offer of a role comes at a time when Lim Ji-yeon is taking on a series of high-profile projects. At the beginning of 2025, she shone in The Tale of Lady Ok, playing two women with opposing destinies. She will soon be back in Annoying Love, a melodrama broadcast on tvN, alongside Lee Jung-jae.
Lim Ji-yeon thus seems to be confirming her status as a chameleon actress, capable of switching from dark thrillers to romantic comedies with disconcerting ease. If her participation in Brave New World is confirmed, there's no doubt that this role could become one of her most iconic.
The actress is also currently on the TV show Fresh off the sea 2 alongside Lee Jae-wook.
