An unexpected trio could soon cause a sensation in a brand-new Korean drama combining romance and fantasy. According to several industry sources, Lee Soo-hyuk has received an offer to play one of the lead roles in The Men of the Harem, an adaptation of a successful web novel. The actor is said to be positively considering the offer, according to his agency SARAM Entertainment.
An empress, suitors... and a struggle for the throne
The drama The Men of the Harem takes place in the fictional world of the Tarim Empire, where Empress Latil, in order to retain her place on the throne, decides to create her own harem... composed exclusively of men. An intriguing role reversal that promises an intrigue rich in political tensions, amorous rivalries and courtly strategies.
Inspired by a popular web novel, this series promises to be a skilful blend of romance, power and fantasy, with complex characters and an original imperial atmosphere.
A prestigious team behind the camera
The drama was directed by Lee Eung-bok, one of the most acclaimed directors on the Korean small screen, responsible for such works as Goblin, Mr. Sunshine, Sweet Home 2 and 3. The script is by Hwang Jin-young, famous for the historical drama My Dearestpraised for the quality of its writing and its emotional intensity.
An eagerly awaited cast
In addition to Lee Soo -hyukactresses and actors Suzy and Dex (best known for his appearances on reality TV programs) have also been announced as being in talks to join the cast. If these 3 names are confirmed, the drama could benefit from immediate buzz, as much for the strength of its cast as for the originality of its universe.
Lee Soo-hyuk, already accustomed to dark, charismatic roles, has made his mark in dramas such as Doom at Your Service, Queen Woo and recently S Line. His possible participation in The Men of the Harem is therefore arousing great curiosity among fans.
