The actor Lee Jun Hyuk is officially confirmed to star in the new SBS drama « Awakening« a darkly atmospheric occult series that promises to mix exorcism, school pressure and human drift. This project marks the actor's first foray into the supernatural horror genre.
A high school riddled with jealousy and spirits
Awakening takes place at the heart of entrance exam hell, a world where competition, envy and the desire to succeed push students beyond their limits. Attracted by performance-enhancing substances, some students develop disturbing abilities: they hear the voices of the dead, while their classmates begin to die one after the other. Gradually, the school becomes a playground for evil forces, revealing the darker side of this obsession with success.
Into this chaos steps Antonio, a priest newly assigned to Seongryeong High School. His arrival arouses both curiosity and unease among the students, without them ever guessing his true mission.
Antonio, an exorcist ready to do anything to save students
Lee Jun-hyuk plays Antonio, an exorcist priest ordained by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Behind his apparent coldness lies a man of great empathy and sharp intuition. Marked by traumatic experiences, he has long confronted evil in solitude, carrying with him wounds and resilience.
Sent to Seongryeong High School to investigate demonic phenomena, Antonio finds himself confronted with a series of unexplained events. Convinced that someone is manipulating the students and dragging them into a deadly race, he is ready to risk his soul to put an end to this cycle of destruction.
With Awakening, Lee Jun-hyuk takes a radical turn in his career, exploring for the first time the world of the occult and exorcism. It's a transformation that's already generating high expectations for this new role, which is at once spiritual, dark and deeply human.
The drama is expected in 2027 on SBS.
