An ambitious espionage project is taking shape on the Korean drama scene. Lee Hee-joon is in talks to join Han Ji-min and Lee Byung-hun in the drama tentatively titled « Koreans" .

On February 5, MyDaily reported that Lee Hee-joon had confirmed his participation in the project. Subsequently, BH Entertainment tempered the announcement by stating that the 3 actors are «currently reviewing proposals positively», suggesting that casting is on track, but not yet definitively locked.

A Korean remake with a strong historical context

Koreans is presented as the Korean remake of the cult American series The Americans. While the original work was set in the Cold War America of the 1980s, this new version transposes the plot to an equally explosive context: South Korea under military rule.

The project initially attracted attention with the possible pairing of Lee Byung-hun and Jun Ji-hyun. However, Jun Ji-hyun turned down the offer for scheduling reasons, and Han Ji-min has now been approached to take on the role. Notably, Lee Byung-hun, Han Ji-min and Lee Hee-joon are all 3 represented by BH Entertainment, facilitating discussions around this prestigious casting.

A director renowned for his dark tales

The stage direction is entrusted to Ahn Gil-hoknown for his work on The Glory. His involvement suggests a tense, political and psychologically intense atmosphere, faithful to the spirit of the original material, while adapting it to Korean historical realities.

At this stage, little information has been released about the precise roles envisaged for each actor. But the combination of these names, a heavy political context and a tale of family espionage, is already enough to set the stage for the future. Koreans among the most closely watched projects to come.
