A new dramatic project could soon be added to the filmography of Lee Dong-wook. The actor is currently in talks to star in an intense romantic drama from the director of The World of the Married.
On February 3, the Korean press revealed that Lee Dong-wook had received a proposal for the drama tentatively titled « Love Affair« . His agency, KINGKONG by STARSHIP, confirmed the information, saying that the actor was currently studying the project «positively», while remaining cautious before making any final decision.
Fatal love at the heart of the story
Love Affair marks the return of director Mo Wan-il, renowned for his dark psychological portraits and tales of destructive relationships. The drama promises to be a melodramatic romance with high emotional tension.
Lee Dong-wook has been offered the role of Kim Ji-hoon, a man with a seemingly ideal life. With a stable job and a happy marriage, his life is turned upside down when a sudden and dangerous love comes into his life. A devastating passion that threatens to destroy everything he's built.
Female casting still in progress
Production is currently casting the other major roles. The female lead, Gong Hu-gyeong, is described as an irresistibly charming architect whose intense relationship with Kim Ji-hoon becomes the breaking point of the story. The roles of Lee Seon-hee, Kim Ji-hoon's wife, and Lee Dae-hee, Gong Hu-gyeong's companion, are also being cast.
If Lee Dong-wook accepts the project, Love Affair could offer a new variation on his romantic roles, this time in a darker, more tragic register, focusing on human failings and the irreversible consequences of desire.
No release date has yet been announced, but the name of the Netflix platform is already being bandied about. The next few months should reveal more about this project, which is still in development.
