Author Lee Jung, pioneer of the web novel and webtoon Positively Yours, recently spoke about the drama adaptation of her work, eagerly awaited by fans of Korean romance. The series, starring Oh Yeon-seo, Choi Jin-hyuk and Hong Jong-hyun, promises a light-hearted, heartfelt romantic comedy centered on unexpected life choices.
Based on a webtoon from the original novel, Positively Yours tells the story of the unforeseen consequences of a one-night stand between two adults who have sworn never to marry. Oh Yeon-seo plays Jang Hui-won, a workaholic with no experience of love, while Choi Jin-hyuk plays Kang Du-jun, the charismatic CEO of the company where she works.
Casting, characters and faithfulness to the original work
Deeply moved, Lee Jung confided: «I'm deeply touched and overwhelmed by the emotion of seeing a drama produced from a web novel I wrote myself. I sincerely hope that this series will receive a lot of love from viewers.»
The author also talked about the announcement of the main cast, which also includes Hong Jong-hyun and Dasom. «They're very well-known actors, so I was really excited, and above all extremely grateful, to the point where I couldn't find the words,» she explained. She said she was particularly looking forward to discovering Hong Jong-hyun in the role of Cha Min-uk, a thoughtful and caring friend.
Regarding her favorite character, Lee Jung didn't hesitate: «I'm particularly attached to Kang Du-jun, played by Choi Jin-hyuk.» She explains that she imagined this character as an almost unrealistic man, combining virile charm, emotional flexibility and a great ability to care for others.
In her opinion, one of the great assets of Positively Yours lies in «its ability to tell a story that could be heavy, without ever becoming heavy». She was also reassured by the first visuals unveiled: «I've seen the posters and teasers already released, and I think the drama has captured the unique charm of the original work very well.»
Finally, she invites future viewers to look beyond the potentially provocative starting point: «Rather than focusing on the one-night stand, I think audiences will enjoy the series more by observing how the 2 characters together deal with the unexpected consequences of their situation.»
Positively Yours will be broadcast from January 17 at 10:30 p.m. (KST) and will be available internationally on Viki.
