Netflix continues to enrich its catalog of Kdramas with a series whose concept is as original as it is spellbinding. "Genie, Make a Wish"which will be available on October 3promises a delicious blend of supernatural romance, comedy and mystery. With Kim Woo-bin, Suzy, Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun and many others, this new production by Kim Eun-sook (Goblin, Mr. Sunshine) could well become the drama event of the fall.
When a thousand-year-old genius meets an emotionless mechanic
The story begins when Ka Young (Suzy), a cold-hearted young woman and owner of a car garage, stumbles across a magic lamp. From this lamp emerges Genie (Kim Woo Bin), a charismatic spirit who has been asleep for a thousand years and is ready to grant three wishes. But nothing goes according to plan: Ka Young doesn't wish for anything... and Genie, determined to fulfill his mission, is faced with unexpected resistance.
In the first images, the contrast is striking: on the one hand, Genie, elegant and mysterious, tries to adapt to the modern world with a mixture of arrogance and clumsiness.
On the other, Ka Young, icy and unpredictable, fascinates with her raw beauty and unsettling detachment. One image reveals her as the owner of a car garage. Their relationship, tense and full of humor, promises to be one of a kind. battle of egoswhich the screenwriter herself describes as a duel between a spear and shield.
A village of secrets and immortals
But the drama doesn't stop with this explosive duo. The plot thickens with the arrival of enigmatic characters in Cheongpoong Village.
Mi Joo (Ahn Eun Jin), who has come all the way from Cheongdam for a mysterious six-month stay in the countryside.
Soo Hyun (Noh Sang Hyun), an attractive building owner... who turns out to be the Angel of DeathGenie's old road companion.
Saed (Go Kyu-pil), an eccentric worker capable of communicating with animals, in reality servant of the devil in the body of a jaguar.
Min Ji (Lee Joo-young), the village dentist and Ka Young's only friend, whose closeness intrigues.
The drama multiplies leads and promises a rich narrative. hidden keysThis is a story of progressive revelations and unexpected twists and turns. The fantasy world serves as a backdrop for a reflection on human bonds, deep-seated desires... and what we do when we finally have the chance to change everything.
The scriptwriter Kim Eun-sook describes the series as "a fantastic romantic comedy that's easy to follow, fun, stress- and frustration-free, and fun for the whole family to watch together over the holidays. Chuseok (the Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving)".
She adds: "The highlight will be the confrontation between the evil genie, who urges Ka Young to make wishes, and Ka Young, who flatly refuses (a battle between spear and shield), whether it takes the form of a duel, a bloody fight or a brawl."
She continues: "I recommend watching the series without knowing anything in advance on the Genie's brother, Soo Hyunon the mysterious Mi Jooor on Min JiKa Young's friend and dentist.
