A new project combining romance, medicine and personal reconstruction could soon be in the works. Kim Sung-cheol and Jin Ki-joo are currently in talks to play the lead roles in the drama « Sleeping Doctor« a romantic comedy with a human touch and sensitive themes.
On February 9, several Korean media outlets revealed that Kim Sung-cheol had received an offer to direct this new project. His agency, Story J Company, confirmed the information, stating, «He has received an offer to star in “Sleeping Doctor” and is currently considering it.»

A psychiatrist confronts her own wounds
Sleeping Doctor revolves around the character of Hong Gyeong, a psychiatrist who is deeply traumatized by a past sexual assault. Convinced that she has overcome this ordeal, she finally opens the private practice she has long dreamed of. But as she begins this new phase in her life, an unexpected disorder appears: narcolepsy.
In front of his patients, Hong Gyeong suddenly falls asleep, jeopardizing his career and his sanity. Far from being a mere comic device, this condition becomes the symbol of a past that refuses to stay buried. The drama explores her daily struggle to stay afloat as an independent doctor, but also her direct confrontation with the perpetrators of sexual violence, through scenes that are announced as cathartic and straightforward.
Jin Ki-joo is in the running to play this complex character, both fragile and determined, at the head of the Healer Mental Health Clinic.
A decisive encounter on the road to recovery
It's on this obstacle-ridden path that Hong Gyeong meets Nam Ji-oh, a brilliant freelance doctor with an exceptional memory and encyclopedic medical knowledge. Kim Sung-cheol was offered this role: that of a practitioner as talented as he is discreet, capable of providing the psychiatrist with both professional and emotional support.
Through their relationship, Sleeping Doctor intends to develop a mature romance rooted in reality, where two damaged beings learn to rise up together. The drama promises to mix humor, gentleness and gravity, while highlighting a process of mutual healing, far from the usual clichés of the medical rom-com.
If the discussions are successful, Sleeping Doctor could offer a sensitive and daring look at trauma, personal justice and love as a restorative force.
