These words, according to his lawyer, constitute strong and verifiable proof of the relationship he had at the time.
A letter misinterpreted
The controversy arose (among other things) from the discovery of a letter sent to Kim Sae-ron in 2018. But Me Ko insists that this document was merely a friendly letter, similar to those he sent to other acquaintances to maintain a link with the outside world. The difference in tone is glaring: while the letters to his girlfriend are full of "I love you" and "I miss you", the one sent to Kim Sae-ron contains nothing but notes on the weather or military routine.
The physical evidence (letters, newspapers, postcards and photos) all points to the same conclusion: the relationship between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron only began in summer 2019after he came of age and started university, and ended the following year. The lawyer points out that if the version of a romance begun in junior high were true, other photos or older documents would exist. However, no such trace has been produced.
In fact, a postcard from November 2019 illustrates the tone of a couple beginning to discover each other, with phrases like, "Even if we fight, I'll apologize first."
A battle against misinformation
In the actor's defense, the dissemination of unverified rumors by certain platforms is a form of "organized digital violence", seriously damaging his reputation. These intimate documents, reluctantly made public, aim to restoring honor and put an end to a debate fuelled by false information.
The actor's legal team didn't just publish these documents: it also filed defamation suits against certain people close to Kim Sae-ron and online content creators accused of manipulating opinion with false recordings, sometimes generated by AI.
For their part, the actress's relatives have retaliated by filing a complaint for child protection infringement, which augurs well for a long legal battle.
