Kim Ji-won soon back in a drama with the director of Queen of Tears?

Actress Kim Ji-won may soon be reunited with director Kim Hee-won and screenwriter Jung Seo-kyung for an eagerly-awaited new project. According to several South Korean media, the star has been chosen to play the lead role in the upcoming K-drama entitled Detective Park Mi Ok.

A prestigious collaboration in the making

This new drama will tell the story of Korea's very first female detective, based on the real-life Park Mi-ok. According to early reports, screenwriter Jung Seo-kyung was already writing the script with Kim Ji-won in mind for the lead role.

The project marks the latest collaboration between the duo Kim Hee-won and Jung Seo-kyung, already responsible for such hits as Little Women (2022) and Tempest (2025) broadcast on Disney+. If Kim Ji-won confirms her participation, it will also be a highly anticipated reunion with the director of Queen of Tearsone of the greatest dramatic successes of 2024.

With a female lead director, screenwriter and actress, Detective Park Mi Ok is shaping up to be a female-driven series, already attracting strong public interest. For the moment, no broadcast date or information on the rest of the cast has been revealed.

Kim Ji-won, a much sought-after actress

Before shooting this new project, Kim Ji-won must first complete the filming of Doctor X: Age of the White Mafiascheduled for release in 2026, in which she will co-star with Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo and Kim Woo-seok.

Revealed in The Heirs, Kim Ji-won has established herself as a key actress thanks to outstanding roles in Descendants of the Sun, Fight for My Way, Arthdal Chronicles, Lovestruck in the City and My Liberation Notes.

If her participation in Detective Park Mi Ok is confirmed, the actress could well mark a new turning point in her career, playing a character inspired by a strong female historical figure.
