MBC is gradually unveiling the contours of its next major drama, Moon River, scheduled for release on October 31 (pending an OTT for international distribution). A new teaser has just been posted online, offers a glimpse into the relationship between the 2 protagonists, played by Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong, in a plot where the boundary between past and present, body and mind, seem to fade away.

A meeting haunted by the past

In a kingdom marked by loss and painful memories, the Crown Prince Yi Kang (Kang Tae-oh) appears despondent, unable to get over the death of his princess consort. His grief takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Park Dal-yi (Kim Se-jeong), a young woman with amnesia and a strangely familiar face. Their meeting is marked by a profound disturbance: Dal-yi resembles the prince's late wife. A resemblance that unsettles him, all the more so as she, though affected, keeps her distance and refuses to be treated like a shadow from the past.

But reality shifts when, without explanation, Yi Kang and Park Dal-yi switch bodies. This radical change upsets the already fragile balance of their relationship. In the teaser, Yi Kang confides: "Right now, this girl is in my body, but in my heart, it's the moon that's sinking". It's a poetic, almost heart-rending line, heralding a relationship made up of confusion, mixed memories and feelings reborn in a new form.

A historical romance with fantastic overtones

Moon River promises to be a sageuk at the crossroads of genres, blending the charm of a historical tale with the twists and turns of a supernatural tale. Around the main duo, other complex relationships emerge: the prince Yi Woon (Lee Shin-young) seems to be torn between his responsibilities and his past, especially when it comes to Kim Woo-hee (Hong Su-zu), heiress to the powerful Moonjoong family. The teaser hints at a thwarted love affair, in which Kim Woo-hee tries unsuccessfully to bring Yi Woon back to himself.
