Actress Jung So-min is about to take on a new challenge on Netflix. After delighting audiences in Would You Marry Marry Me, the actress will play the lead role in the original series Dealera thrilling casino thriller.
In Dealer, Jung So-min will play Jeong Geon-hwa, a 4-year veteran dealer at Ocean Land Casino. Renowned for her professionalism and precision, she always keeps her cool, no matter what the situation. When a difficult customer causes a scandal, everyone knows she's the only one capable of handling the crisis.
This new drama, which focuses on a woman in the intense world of gambling and crime, is reminiscent of 2003's legendary "All In", in which Song Hye-kyo played a similar role. But this time, Jung So-min brings her own touch, blending quiet strength with modern charisma.
The synopsis
Behind the glamorous façade of Oceanland, a brand-new casino whose rooms are open to local residents, lie customers who are often difficult to deal with. As the establishment's revenues begin to fall, the management decides to organize the biggest Texas Hold'em tournament to turn things around. Meanwhile, Geon-hwa, one of the casino's dealers, hides a surprising secret: after drinking alcohol, she's able to detect lies! Having been swindled out of her housing deposit, Geon-hwa decides to enter the tournament herself in a bid to recoup her loss.
Dealer will be produced by Choi Young-hwanknown for his cinematography of such hits as Tazza, The Thieves, Berlin, Veteran and Smugglers. The screenplay is by Lee Tae-youngwho helped write On Your Wedding Day and Beasts Clawing at Straws.
The actress, who announced the end of her contract with the Ieum Hashtag agency on October 24, is currently looking for a new agency to continue her career.
With Dealer, Netflix seems to be banking on a strong, atypical heroine, supported by the talent and sensitivity of Jung So-min. A promising bet that could well mark a new stage in the actress's career.
