Actor Jung E-chan, formerly known as Min Sun-hong, will star in TV CHOSUN's upcoming weekend mini-drama, «Doctor Shin». The series promises to be an intense medical thriller, mixing science, love and moral dilemmas.
The drama follows a brilliant doctor who dares to cross boundaries once considered the domain of the divine. At the heart of the plot: a woman whose brain is suddenly damaged, leading to a gradual loss of her “soul”. The story also revolves around a star who falls into a coma after a tragic accident, and the two men connected to her, the one who loved her and the one who still does.
A genius at the top... and on the edge of a precipice
Jung E-chan plays Shin Ju-shin, director of the neurosurgery department at Nua Hospital and president of the Nua Foundation, which runs an orphanage. A world-renowned surgeon, he is described as a doctor whose talent rivals the divine, even surpassing his late father, Professor Shin Woo-pil.
Brilliant, elegant and with an elite background, Shin Ju-shin seems to possess every conceivable quality. Yet the first images unveiled hint at an inner tension. We see him concentrating in the operating room, then dressed in his medical coat, a glass of wine in hand, a serious look on his face, engaged in a meaningful conversation.
What makes this medical genius falter? And how far will he go in his experiments?
A first headliner
For Jung E-chan, this is his first leading role since his debut. The actor shared his emotions: «When I heard I'd been chosen for the lead role, I felt immense gratitude and enthusiasm. The more I wanted to do well, the more I felt the weight of the responsibility of carrying the project. Instead of seeing this weight as pressure, I tried to use it as motivation for my acting. I hope viewers will look forward to the immersive performance I'll be showing through “Doctor Shin.”»
