Actress Jo Hye-joo has officially been cast in the lead role of the drama I Am a Sinner (내가 죄인이오), adapted from a popular webtoon published on Kakao. The series, still in the casting phase, promises to be a radical crime noir set in 1980s Korea.

A free heroine in a world without rules
The story takes place in a lawless city, where two boys from an orphanage (nicknamed Paeng-i and Saeng-dak) plunge into drug trafficking to survive. Two names are already known to play these characters: Park Seo-joon and Uhm Tae-goo.
At the heart of this raw narrative lies Bok-heeplayed by Jo Hye-joo. An unpredictable, wild character, impossible to tame. Born in the same orphanage as the two heroes, she has lived a life marked by violence and abuse. When she falls into the criminal world, she quickly becomes a central element in the drug trafficking that links the three characters.
In the original webtoon, Bok-hee is one of the dramatic pillars of the story. Her gaze, her desire for freedom and her silent rage shape the story's shadow as much as its male protagonists.
A radical transformation for the actress
With this role, Jo Hye-joo completely changes register. Known for her appearances in Search WWW, Reborn Rich and My Demon, this is her first venture into dark drama.
After laying a solid foundation as lead actress last year with To My HarryHere, she is poised to embody a raw, wounded and dangerous character, far removed from luminous or romantic figures.
The production promises an unfiltered performance, with Bok-hee neither a gentle heroine nor a caricatured victim, but a woman at war with the world.
The drama is currently being prepared for broadcast on OTT platforms. The release date and official broadcaster will be announced at a later date.
