The highly anticipated drama « Perfect Crown »is finally entering a concrete phase. On January 29, the production team unveiled images of the script reading, offering a first glimpse of the chemistry between IU and Byeon Woo-seok, at the heart of this ambitious project scheduled for spring.
Set in an alternative universe where modern Korea is a constitutional monarchy, Perfect Crown tells the story of an unexpected romance between two characters who have nothing in common: Sung Hee-joo, a chaebol heiress who has everything but a title, and the great Prince Yi An, son of the king, who has only his status... with no real power or freedom.

A contractual romance in the heart of a monarchical world
IU plays Sung Hee-joo, an audacious, self-confident young woman from an ultra-powerful family but excluded from the nobility. As soon as the script was read, the actress set the tone with a lively, confident performance, going so far as to provoke laughter from the team during a scene in which her character proposes a contract marriage to Prince Yi An, multiplying mischievous gestures and knowing winks.

Opposite her, Byeon Woo-seok lends his features to the great Prince Yi An, an elegant, reserved man trapped by his rank. With a calm voice and restrained delivery, the actor subtly sketched the emotional cracks in his character, who is gradually turned upside down by his encounter with Sung Hee-joo. Together, the two actors immediately established a fluid, natural dynamic, making us eager to discover the evolution of this relationship built on a contract... but threatened by real feelings.

A solid cast and clear ambitions
The script reading also introduced us to the other key characters. Noh Sang-hyun plays Prime Minister Min Jung-woo, bringing a lively energy and a marked complicity with both Sung Hee-joo and Prince Yi An.

Gong Seung-yeon plays Yoon Yi-rang, a woman born with what is known as «a queen's destiny», adding a quieter but palpable tension to the story.

The supporting cast, including Lee Yeon, Yoo Su-bin, Lee Jae-won, Chae Seo-an, Jo Seung-yeon and many others, also shone on the set, adding depth to the drama with their interpretations.

The project's ambitions have been clearly stated by the players themselves. IU declared: «I'm going to work hard so that Perfect Crown dominate the drama scene in 2026.» Byeon Woo-seok confidently echoed, «I will do my best to turn the world upside down in 2026.»
Supported by a dense cast, directed by Park Joon-hwa and written by Yoo Ji-won, Perfect Crown is shaping up to be one of the most scrutinized dramas of the year.
Broadcasting is scheduled from April 3, 2026.
