With just a few weeks to go before its release, “Gold Land”continues to unveil its key characters. After Park Bo-young, it's Kim Hee-won and Lee Hyun-wook who attract attention with roles deeply marked by survival, desire and dangerous choices.
This thriller follows Hee-joo, an airport security guard who finds herself in possession of gold ingots linked to a smuggling ring. Soon, those around her fall prey to greed and betrayal.
Kim Hee-won, a corrupt cop driven by survival
Kim Hee-won plays Kim Jin-man, a policeman who has long been involved in corruption cases linked to violent organizations. Faced with a colossal case involving 150 billion won in gold bullion, he adopts a cautious stance, preferring to observe rather than act immediately.

Caught between temptation and the need to survive, Jin-man constantly hesitates between concealing the truth or taking advantage of the situation. The actor describes his character as follows: «Jin-man is ultimately a kind of ephemeral. He's someone who has learned to live by hiding his desires rather than expressing them.»
Director Kim Seong-hoon points out: «Kim Hee-won worked hard to show the changes in the character after his encounter with Hee-joo and the gold ingots.»

Scriptwriter Hwang Jo-yoon adds: «He's the character I've become most attached to. A lot of people live by compromise, like him.»
Lee Hyun-wook, a man ready to do anything for love
Meanwhile, Lee Hyun-wook plays Lee Do-kyung, Hee-joo's boyfriend, whose choices gradually change the course of the story.

As an airline pilot, he's directly involved in the smuggling business and drags Hee-joo into this dangerous trap. When he discovers the magnitude of the sum at stake, he begins to make increasingly risky decisions to protect both the gold... and the woman he loves. But his actions fuel an uncontrollable spiral where love and desire become inseparable.
Lee Hyun-wook explains: «For Do-kyung, Hee-joo is both his final destination and his refuge. Even if his choices put her in danger, he acts only for her.»

As the director explains, «Do-kyung feels something for Hee-joo, but he doesn't know if it's love or desire.» With its ambiguous, deeply human characters, “Gold Land” promises constant tension between morality, survival instinct and emotion.
The 10-episode series will debut on Disney+ on April 29, with 2 episodes broadcast each week.
