Netflix has unveiled a initial overview of his next drama « Notes From The Last Row« presented at the event Next on Netflix 2026 Korea. Adapted from an acclaimed Spanish play by Juan Mayorga, the series promises to be an intense psychological drama centered on creation, frustration and obsession.
The story follows Heo Mun-oh, a professor of literature played by Choi Min-sik. Once driven by the dream of becoming a writer, he published just one novel in his youth, only to be shattered by harsh criticism. Since then, he has led a monotonous existence, resigned to teaching without believing in his own talent. Everything changes when he begins to take an interest in the writings of a discreet student, always sitting in the back row of his class.

When admiration turns to obsession
This student, Lee Kang, is played by Choi Hyun-wook. Quiet, observant and gifted with a real talent for writing, he gradually attracts the attention of Heo Mun-oh. Fascinated by his essays, the professor sees in him a reflection of what he could have become. He invites him to join a secret literary circle, rekindling his own long-buried ambitions.

The first images show this emerging dynamic: Heo Mun-oh stands in front of the class, immersed in his role as teacher, while Lee Kang listens attentively from the back row, both present and in the background. But this intellectual relationship soon goes beyond the pedagogical. The teacher's emotional involvement in his pupil's writing becomes excessive, leading him down an unexpected path, where admiration and jealousy seem to merge dangerously.
Through the troubled relationship between master and pupil, Notes From The Last Row explores the fragile boundary between inspiration and obsession, transmission and appropriation. Carried by two actors with powerful registers, the drama promises a tense plunge into the shadowy zones of artistic creation and the desire for recognition.
