The actor Kim Soo-hyun is at the heart of a case that seems to be dragging on until the courts decide. His lawyer, Master Go Sang-rokpublicly accused the YouTuber Kim Se-uiknown for its Garo Sero Research Institute (Gaseyeon)to have manufactured false evidence KakaoTalk as part of the accusations against the actor.

"The most crucial point in this case is the manipulation of KakaoTalk conversations dating back to 2016," said Go Sang-rok. "The exchanges that Kim Se-ui claims are between the deceased and Kim Soo-hyun are completely falsified. They are actually conversations between the deceased and a man supposed to be her companion, but the name and profile picture have been changed to make it look like Kim Soo-hyun."
At this famous press conference, Kim Se-ui and the lawyer Bu Ji-seokrepresenting the family of the deceased, had accused the actor of having "groomed (when an adult manipulates a minor for sexual purposes) and sexually exploited" a young girl since her adolescence. In support of their allegations, they showed KakaoTalk screenshots purporting to prove an inappropriate relationship between Kim Soo-hyun and the victim.
These captures showed explicit messages such as "When can I fall asleep holding you in my arms?". Yet there was nothing to clearly identify the actual sender of these messages. Disturbingly, none of the journalists present at the conference questioned this lack of tangible proof.
Go Sang-rok explains why:
"The reason no one doubted was that Kim Se-ui had falsified the sender's profileby displaying the photo and name of Kim Soo-hyun in the chat window. That way, journalists and the public had no reason to be suspicious."
Worse still, the lawyer claims that the profile photo used in the alleged conversation didn't even exist at the time.
"This photo comes from a shoot done in April 2020, and first published in June of the same year," he points out. "So it couldn't have been used in 2016."
For him, it's about "the very heart of manipulation" This deliberate falsification led hundreds of media outlets to publish articles on the same day, portraying Kim Soo-hyun as a "sexual predator of minors".
"In the space of 24 hours, hundreds of articles were published, and Kim Soo-hyun was labeled a criminal by public opinion," laments Go Sang-rok. "This is the most decisive scene in the whole affair."
After the deception concerning the photo was revealed, Kim Se-ui and her associate (nicknamed "the fake aunt") tried to defend themselves, claiming that it was just a "visual effect to aid comprehension".. A justification that the lawyer finds unacceptable.
"They exploited the fact that people think: 'No one would go to such lengths to invent such a story'. It's precisely this naivety that they've used to manipulate public perception."
According to him, the perpetrators of this manipulation continued to spread rumors, promising to publish "thousands more photos" after the presidential election in order to keep up the media pressure.
"They committed a bold and premeditated crime, using evidence tampering to assassinate the reputation of an innocent man and get what they wanted," Go added. "The fake KakaoTalk profile is one of the most serious and malicious methods used to entrench a lie in the public mind."
Unprecedented national fraud
The lawyer denounces a "unprecedented national swindle" which led "millions of people in Korea and abroad to believe that Kim Soo-hyun was a sex offender". He also accuses the authorities of have not yet grasped the seriousness of the situationand regrets that the original KakaoTalk files have still not been handed over to the police.
"This affair must begin with a rigorous verification of the authenticity of these alleged 2016 conversations," he insisted.
Finally, he warned against the current freedom still enjoyed by Kim Se-ui:
"Kim Se-ui continues to broadcast his shows. These people can spread lies at any time, and anyone could be their next target. What angers me most is that these crimes are repeated in broad daylight without our system stopping them." "We're talking about a mass crime here: a falsification of evidence aimed at socially destroying an innocent individual.
