Netflix has unveiled an intriguing first teaser and poster for its upcoming romantic drama « Boyfriend on Demand« bringing together Jisoo and Seo In-guk in a romantic comedy as modern as it is playful.
Directed by Kim Jung Sik (Work Later, Drink Now, Not Others), the drama promises a light, up-to-date reflection on romance in the virtual age.
Subscription romance, between fatigue and fantasy
Boyfriend on Demand follows Seo Mi-rae, a webtoons producer exhausted by her work and disillusioned by relationships. Still in search of romance but at her wits' end, she is tempted by a virtual dating simulation service, supposed to offer the perfect date... without the complications of the real world.
The teaser opens with a direct question: «Tired of life and bored of dating, but still looking for romance?» After logging on to a mysterious device, Mi Rae subscribes to this novel service, guided by a voice played by Yoo In-na, who invites her to enter a universe capable of ’setting her heart on fire«.
Dream dates... but virtual ones
Once immersed in the simulation, Mi Rae goes on a series of dates worthy of romantic fantasies: campus stories, romances with celebrities, princes or historical figures. The teaser multiplies surprise appearances, with cameos from Seo Kang-joon, Lee Soo-hyuk, Kim Young-dae, Lee Jae-wook, and many others.
Yacht, beach, royal palace or historic Korean setting: each environment offers a new, idealized version of love. But as Mi Rae multiplies her experiences, a question begins to emerge: can we really be satisfied with virtual love, however perfect it may be?
The teaser concludes with a final invitation: «Who will you be dating today?», followed by the tagline: «Disconnect from reality and let your heart soar with a virtual dating subscription.»
The recently unveiled poster shows Mi Rae deep in thought, accompanied by a checklist revealing her reasons for subscribing to this unique service.
