Kim Se-jeong could soon return to the small screen with an original project combining action, romance and fantasy. The actress is currently in talks to play the lead role in the drama “High School Queen”(working title).
On April 2, several media outlets reported that she had been chosen to play the heroine of the series, currently in preparation. However, her agency BH Entertainment clarified: “The drama ‘High School Queen’ is one of the projects proposed to Kim Se-jeong.”
The project is already arousing curiosity thanks to its atypical concept and its origins in a popular webtoon.
A Joseon queen propelled into a modern high school
Adapted from a webtoon of the same name, “High School Queen” tells the story of Kim Chung-ha, a Joseon-era queen recognized as the greatest swordswoman of her time.
After her reincarnation, she finds herself in the body of Park Da-jin, a high-school student from our own time. Faced with a totally different environment, she uses her martial skills inherited from the past to confront school bullies and restore justice.
The webtoon particularly appealed to readers thanks to its mix of action and revenge, driven by a strong, charismatic heroine.
A highly coveted role
Before Kim Se-jeong, Shin Ye-eun was also approached for the lead role, but reportedly declined.
If Kim Se-jeong accepts the project, she would be adding a striking new role to her already busy career. She first came to public attention with the group I.O.I and then gugudan, and went on to establish herself as an actress with dramas such as “School 2017”, “The Uncanny Counter” and “Business Proposal”.
At the same time, she is also preparing for the return of the band I.O.I on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, with a comeback and tour scheduled to start in May.
