The Korean adaptation of the cult novel « The Miracles of the Namiya General Store »continues to take shape, with new names already attracting attention.
On February 12, several media outlets revealed that Ryu Seung-ryong was in talks to play one of the lead roles in the drama. His agency PRAIN TPC confirmed that he had received a proposal and was currently studying the project.
A cult novel soon to be adapted into a K-drama
Written by Higashino Keigo, «The Miracles of the Namiya General Store» is one of the Japanese author's best-known novels. The story follows three thieves who hide out in a small abandoned grocery store, the Namiya General Store, a mysterious place where past and present intersect.
As they begin to answer letters asking for advice, they gradually discover a secret linked to an almost miraculous connection... a connection that ends up turning their own destinies upside down.
The Korean version is scheduled for around 10 episodes and is currently in pre-production. Lee Chae-min, Kim Hye-yoon, Yum Jung-ah and Park Se-wan are also said to be in talks to join the cast, while Moon Sang-min is said to be considering a special appearance.
Kang You-seok confirmed as thief leader
Meanwhile, another important piece of information has been added to the project: Kang You-seok has been confirmed in the cast.
The actor will play Jae-wook, the leader of the trio of thieves. He is expected to co-star with Lee Chae-min and play a central role in the development of the plot.
Kang You-seok has recently established himself as one of the rising faces of the small screen, with a string of high-profile projects and a growing international audience. In fact, his solo fan meeting in Japan sold out as soon as sales opened, confirming his status as an up-and-coming actor.
With a novel already highly acclaimed and a cast mixing veterans and young talent, the Korean adaptation of «The Miracles of the Namiya General Store» promises to be one of the most eagerly awaited projects of this coming season.
