I've started« The Good Bad Mother »After seeing many recommendations... and from the very first episodes, I understood that I was not facing a drama like the others. It's simple: I'm giving it a 10/10, a mark I very rarely give.

The series offers a deeply human story, centered on a single mother, Yeong-sun (Ra mi-ran), who raises her son alone in hardship after the death of her husband. This initial trauma becomes the driving force behind the entire plot: turning her son into a prosecutor capable of restoring a truth that the past has buried. But where the drama surprises is in the way it gradually deconstructs this mother-son relationship, until it is unexpectedly reborn.
A mother-son relationship at the heart of a deeply moving story
At first, the character of Kang-ho, played by Lee Do-hyun, is hard to pin down. Cold, distant, almost impenetrable, he recalls at times one of the actor's darker roles, in The Glory. But an accident turns everything upside down: mentally retarded, Kang-ho returns to live with his mother, with the mind of a child.

This tipping point gives the drama its strength. Where many series would be content with a classic dramatic arc, The Good Bad Mother chooses a more intimate path: that of a second chance. A second chance for his mother, who becomes aware of the mistakes made in her upbringing.
Carried by an absolutely remarkable Ra Mi-ran, this relationship becomes the real emotional heart of the story. We witness a gradual reconstruction, made up of regrets, tenderness and everyday moments that ring incredibly true. That's what makes this drama so endearing: it never forces emotion, but lets it sink in.

A successful balance of emotion, romance and intrigue
What particularly struck me was the drama's ability to juggle several tones without ever losing its balance. We move from harsh scenes to lighter moments, often driven by village life, which acts almost as a character in its own right. This community brings warmth and humanity to the whole, enhancing the emotional impact of certain scenes.

The romance, led by Ahn Eun-jin and Lee Do-hyun, is a natural part of the story. It remains present without ever becoming intrusive or too sweet, which is a real strength. It accompanies Kang-ho's evolution without distracting from the heart of the story.
At the same time, the intrigue linked to the past and the truth to be revealed progresses efficiently. Even if the legal resolution may seem a little quick on the uptake, this remains a minor flaw in the overall coherence of the script. The essential is elsewhere: in the emotions, in the relationships, in this journey towards reconciliation.
A must-see k-drama
Available on Netflix, The Good Bad Mother stands out for me as one of the must-see kdramas. With its impeccable casting, sensitive writing and ability to make you laugh as well as cry, it leaves a real mark once it's finished.
It's the kind of series that makes you think, especially about family relationships and the choices you make for those you love. And above all, it's a drama that's not easily forgotten.
And what did you think of The Good Bad Mother ? Does it also deserve a 10/10 in your opinion?
