Go Doo-shim (고두심) is a South Korean actress born on May 22, 1951, on Jeju Island. Active since 1972, she is considered one of South Korea’s greatest actresses. Nicknamed the «Mother of the Nation,» she is famous for her many roles as a devoted mother and has won a record seven Daesang awards, the highest honor in Korean television.
She began her television career in 1972 and gradually established herself as a leading figure in Korean dramas. Over the decades, she has starred in numerous hit series, including Country Diaries, More Beautiful Than a Flower, All About My Mom, Dear My Friends and When the Camellia Blooms.
In recent years, she has been very active in her career. In 2022, she played the lead roles in Our Blues, in which she plays Hyun Choon-hee, and from The Tree Dies Standing, in which she plays Ja Geum-sun. She also appears in Island and its second season, before playing Ha Yi-chan's grandmother in Twinkling Watermelon (2023). In 2024, she plays Bok Man-heum in The Atypical Family and makes an appearance in Check-in at Hanyang.
In 2026, Go Doo-shim joined the cast of Sold Out on You (Heart in Business), in which she plays Song Hak-daek and Yang Sang-geum. In 2027, she is set to appear in Got It, in which she plays the lead role of «Great Granny.».
In film, she has made a name for herself in movies such as My Mother, the Mermaid, Family Ties, Good Morning, Mr. President, The Preparation, Exit and Everglow. His exceptional career, spanning more than five decades, has earned him numerous awards, as well as the Medal of the Order of Cultural Merit in 2007.
